Sobibor transport lists

The Jules Schelvis collection at NIOD in Amsterdam, archive files 55 to 58 and 60 to 63.

Search the 34,218 people on these lists by name, street or town.

Between March 2 and July 20, 1943, nineteen trains took 34,313 Jews from the Westerbork camp in the Netherlands to Sobibor in occupied Poland. Most were murdered in the gas chambers within hours of arriving. Eighteen of them survived the war.

These eight files from the Jules Schelvis collection at NIOD hold the lists of the people on all nineteen trains. Every page is shown whole, beside a transcription and an English translation, with the people it names.

The transcriptions and translations were made by machine and haven't been checked line by line. Names and dates keep the spelling on the page, including the typists' errors. Where the text and the scan differ, the scan is right. How this reader was made explains each step.

The June 8, 1943 list in file 60 isn't a 1943 document. It's a later typed list sorted by age group and sex, with no addresses. No original list for that transport is in these files.

The nineteen transports

People are counted once, on the train they left on. The published totals are from Elie A. Cohen, De negentien treinen naar Sobibor (1981), p. 23.
